Adventure Awaits

More Than Simply a Summer Experience

Overland creates lasting memories and friendships that go well beyond a single summer.

Overland offers premier teen adventure camps that blend physical challenge with meaningful community. Teens ages 14–18 choose from hiking, biking, and service trips in inspiring locations like Alaska, the Rockies, and New England. With limited group sizes and no screens, teens build real relationships and discover inner strength. Each journey promotes goal-setting, cooperation, and the joy of exploring the outdoors under experienced leader guidance.

“Words cannot describe the intimate dynamic of an Overland trip…

something I crave every day I am not on a trip or visiting my Overland friends. At Overland, everyone is important and everything that we do is as a team. Such a supportive and collaborative environment is hard to find anywhere else. I am so grateful for the long-lasting connections that I made on my trips!”

“In sending our kids to Overland, our goal was for them to become adventurous, acquire independence, confidence and leadership.

We also wanted them to be exposed to different cultures and experiences which would stretch them beyond their comfort zone.”

“I believe leadership is being able to love and care for all of the team members…

I’ve learned that leadership does not only rest on the “leader.” In a team, we all can and should lead. This summer, I’ll strive to empower and encourage ownership in each and every team member over our summer adventure!”

How does Overland prioritize safety?

Safety is central to everything we do at Overland. From how we plan trips to how we train and support our leaders, we focus on managing risks thoughtfully and effectively. While no outdoor program can eliminate risk entirely, we work hard to minimize it through smart planning and exceptional leadership. Our commitment to safety—and to recruiting and training outstanding leaders—has earned families’ trust since 1984.

What are Overland’s policies on phones, electronics, and communication?

To help campers stay present and engaged, we limit digital communication during trips. Campers call home at the start and end of their program using Overland’s phones, with a leader’s support. Phones brought for travel are collected on arrival and returned at the end.

We welcome cameras but ask that all other electronics—like tablets, e-readers, or music players—stay home. Any non-camera devices brought will be mailed home at your expense.

Our leaders stay in regular contact with our office, and if your child ever needs medical care, we’ll call you right away and keep you informed every step of the way.

How challenging are Overland’s hiking trips?

Our trips are designed to match the age and experience of our students, with the right level of challenge and support at every stage.

  • Adventure trips (grades 4–6): Gentle hikes and light daypacks—ideal for first-timers.
  • Explorer trips (grades 6–9): A mix of day hikes, intro backpacking, and off-trail fun like rafting or kayaking.
  • Expedition trips (grades 9–11): Longer backpacking and added activities like rock climbing or mountaineering.
  • Challenge trips (grades 10–12): Our most demanding trips, featuring long hikes and rugged terrain—perfect for experienced students.

Not sure which trip is the right fit? Email us at [email protected]—we’re happy to help.

How does Overland handle bears and other wildlife?

We take wildlife safety seriously. Our groups travel in well-used areas, which reduces the chance of wildlife encounters. We set up camp and store food in ways that discourage animals, and in bear country, our leaders carry bear spray as an added precaution.

Who are Overland's leaders?

Overland leaders are exceptional role models—thoughtful, encouraging, and fully dedicated to their students’ growth. We recruit from top colleges and tap into a strong network of past leaders to find applicants who are compassionate, capable, and committed. Their leadership is a key reason families return to Overland year after year.

From pre-trip prep to in-field updates, Overland ensures seamless family support for each teen enrolled in our summer adventure camps.
