Flying Smart: Get Connected Before You Fly

Should You Join Your Airline’s Award Program? How About Downloading Their App?

The answers to these questions are yes and yes.

If you are new to air travel, or if you just want to improve your air travel days, then read on to learn why getting connected to your airline before you fly can help improve every part of your travel experience.

Why Should You Join Your Airline’s Award (Frequent Flyer) Program?

It’s not necessarily to get free flights—but you can do that if you want. What’s most important about joining an award / frequent flyer program is that you will create a profile with the airline that includes your relevant information: legal name, credit card details, passport number, and Known Traveler Number (an example of a KTN is your TSA Pre number). You’ll do this once, and it will autofill every time you purchase a ticket from that airline. This will be helpful if there is a problem on your travel day, and you need to make a change on the spot: no stress, no fumbling, just swipe, tap, and fly.

Why Should You Download Your Airline’s App?

If there are any problems with your flights—before, during, or after your flight—you’re going to be glad you’ve got your airline’s app downloaded on your phone. Here’s why:

  1. You will not squint a monitor in a crowded airport concourse.
  2. You will stand in line at an airline service desk.
  3. You will not be stuck on hold.

Instead, if things go wrong with your flights, you’ll know your options right away because all of your airline’s information is right there on your phone. And you’ll be able to make your changes with a touch and a swipe.
