Dylan Petrillo

Raised on a llama farm in Connecticut, I grew up with a spirit of exploration and a willingness to get my hands a little dirty. That curiosity followed me to Maine, where I spent college exploring its wild coastlines and mountains and fell in love with surfing, hiking, and skiing. Somewhere along the way, my appreciation for the outdoors also found its way into the garden. I re-established a community garden in Harpswell, Maine, a project that gave me a different way to connect with the land and, conveniently, another excuse to keep my hands dirty while away from home.

Overland students are curious, thoughtful, and always up for a laugh – which are just a few of the reasons I keep coming back year after year. After spending two summers as a trip leader in Alaska and Switzerland, I’ve seen firsthand how our programs help students develop a meaningful connection with the outdoors, along with a sense of confidence, curiosity, and adventure.

A good leader is more memorable than any view on an Overland trip. That’s why I’m excited to work with the Leader Hiring team to bring capable, caring, and inspiring leaders to our programs – and help more students find their own way to get their hands dirty.
